Editorial Standards
Editorial Policy
Last updated: June 2026
Book of World History publishes long-form articles on world history for a general audience. This policy explains how our content is created and the standards we hold it to. Our goal is simple: history that is accurate, clearly sourced, and accessible.
Our mission
We aim to make rigorously researched history readable for everyone, with a deliberately global perspective that moves beyond a single cultural lens. We prioritize substance over speed and accuracy over volume.
Who writes our content
Articles are written by our contributors and editorial team. Every article carries a byline linking to an author profile that lists the author’s focus areas and any relevant credentials. ✏️ Ensure each author profile reflects real, verifiable background information.
Research and sourcing
Our articles are built from reputable sources. Where practical we favor:
- Primary sources — original documents, inscriptions, and contemporaneous records.
- Peer-reviewed scholarship — academic books and journal articles.
- Reputable institutions — museums, universities, and recognized reference works.
Many articles include a References / Further Reading section listing key sources so readers can verify claims and read further.
Review before publishing
✏️ Describe your real review process here. For example: drafts are checked for factual accuracy against the cited sources and reviewed by an editor before going live. Only claim review steps that genuinely happen.
Accuracy and the limits of historical knowledge
History is interpretive, and scholarship evolves. Where dates, attributions, or interpretations are contested or uncertain, we aim to say so rather than present a single version as settled. Our detailed approach to verifying claims is described in our Fact-Checking Policy.
Updates and revisions
We revisit articles as new discoveries and scholarship emerge. Substantive updates are reflected in the article’s “last updated” date. When we correct an error, we follow our Corrections Policy.
Editorial independence and funding
Book of World History is supported by advertising. Advertising and any affiliate or sponsored arrangements do not influence our editorial judgment, the topics we cover, or the conclusions we reach. ✏️ Adjust this to match your actual revenue sources. Details on advertising and data are in our Privacy Policy.
Use of AI tools
✏️ State your real policy on AI assistance. For example: AI tools may be used to assist with drafting or editing, but every article is researched, fact-checked, and reviewed by a human who is responsible for its accuracy. If you do not use AI tools, say that instead.
