Corrections Policy

Last updated: June 2026

We work hard to get history right, but no publication is perfect. When we make a mistake, we want to fix it quickly and transparently. This page explains how.

How to report an error

If you believe an article contains a factual error, please contact us. It helps if you can include:

  • The article title or link.
  • The specific statement you believe is incorrect.
  • A source or reasoning supporting the correction, if you have one.

How we review reports

We review every good-faith correction request. We check the disputed claim against reputable sources in line with our Fact-Checking Policy. ✏️ State your real target turnaround (for example, “we aim to respond within a few business days”) only if you can meet it.

How we correct content

  • Minor fixes (typos, formatting, obvious slips) are corrected quietly and may not be separately noted.
  • Substantive corrections (a changed fact, date, or claim) update the article and its “last updated” date. ✏️ If you intend to add a visible correction note to materially corrected articles, describe that here and apply it consistently.

Updates vs. corrections

Not every change is a correction. We also revise articles to reflect new scholarship or to add detail. Routine updates are reflected in the “last updated” date, as described in our Editorial Policy.
